    Remember to have a box packed with torches, light bulbs, toilet rolls, bleeding valve, fuses, screw driver and essential provisions for your first night.

    Refrigerator

     The day or two before unpack the fridge, and eat what you can. What you don’t eat the friends or neighbours will be grateful. Allow it to defrost and empty the drainage pan underneath. Disconnect and drain your auto ice-maker. Clean it out. Read the manual to see whether you should raise or lower the wheels or leveling rollers. Wrap all the shelves and tape inside doors and drawers shut. Tape the cord to the side and tape the door shut.The day or two before unpack the fridge, and eat what you can.     Washing Machine

    Try as best you can to drain as much water out of the machine as possible, you can take it outside and tip it sideways. Take out all the accessories and put them in a plastic bag. Unclip the bars from the back of your machine and insert them back into the sides of the machine to prevent the drum from moving. Put in sachets of desiccant to prevent mildew and wrap in a moving blanket.

    Dryer

    Disconnect the hose and the exhaust duct from the wall. You can put them in the drum of the machine. Tape the lint catcher into place and the door shut. Wrap in a blanket.

    Dishwasher

    Make sure its empty and tape all the insides into place. Check the manual for draining and disconnecting. Tape the door shut and tape the hose and wires in place. Put in sachets of desiccant. Wrap in a moving blanket.

    Oven

     Hateful job but you’re better off doing it before you move, CLEAN your oven before hand. Tape down all removables and tape the electrical cord and door shut. Wrap in a moving blanket.

    Television

    Remember to leave the cable and cable box behind they belong to the cable company. Put the television on its side and slide the foam forms on either end. Then slide into the box, set it upright, tape it closed. If you don’t have the original box you can ask your moving company for styrofoam blocks to protect your television if they have available.

    Stereos and DVD players

    Be sure to remove any discs from inside the player. Secure the CD/DVD player with transport screws located on the bottom of the unit, if it has them. Make sure the remote controls are packed with the appliance so they won’t go missing.

    Computers and Printers

    Back up all your files. Secure any loose parts on the computer or printer and remove the toner or ink cartridge, if possible. Make sure all peripherals are packed thoroughly to avoid damage.
